KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor government is preparing an offer document for the water concessionaires to take over the water services industry in the Klang Valley, Selnagor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said on Saturday, Dec 18.
He said the offer document would be offered to Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd, Konsortium ABBAS Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) to take over the water services industry.
Khalid also said the new negotiations between the Selangor Government and Syabas will be conducted in a highly professional, transparent and ethical manner despite the RM471 million legal suit initiated by the water concessionaire against the state.
“While the state will do its utmost to defend itself against the suit in which Syabas claimed for compensation over the state’s decision not to allow for a water tariff increase, it will not allow the court case to affect future negotiations.
“We have always been professional and transparent in the past and we will continue to do,” he said.
However, he is unsure if Syabas can reciprocate the same conduct since the company is clearly bitter over the state’s stand not to allow tariff increases until the water negotiation is finalised.
