GEORGE TOWN: Show us what Penang is getting under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP), Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng told the Federal Government on Wednesday, June 16.

Responding to Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement that Penang was not being sidelined, Lim said Muhyiddin should detail the projects for Penang.

During his visit to Penang on Tuesday, Muhyiddin had rubbished allegations by the state government that Penang was being victimised, getting no allocations under the plan.

He was quoted as saying that various projects under different ministries would also be implemented in Penang.

“Tell us how much of the RM230 billion (10MP allocation) is being channelled into Penang and what are the projects, if he insists that Penang is not being sidelined.

“Until now, we have not heard about anything for Penang under the 10th Malaysia Plan and he should not just issue rhetorical statements.

“The federal government should show that they are not cutting their nose to spite their face, just to punish Penangites,” Lim said at a press conference in reference to Muhyiddin’s statement.

He reminded the federal government that Penang contributed 31% of the total exports from the country and hence should not be neglected.

“If you sideline Penang, Malaysia will suffer as businesses in Penang also pay taxes.

“The federal government does not seem to act in the national interest of the country.

“If Penang fails, Malaysia will also fail,” Lim warned.
